Building Access
The Glendorgal Hotel is built on the top of cliffs overlooking Porth Beach and the North Cornish coastline and comprises of a hotel, self-catering houses and apartments, the Watermark Bar and Brasserie, and Health Club and the ‘Room on the Rocks' conference suite. Access to the Glendorgal is down a drive from the main road leading to the entrance of the hotel and a drive to the houses. Please note that due to the location, the use where possible of natural materials and the layout of the hotel and apartments, the drives, steps and stairs throughout the resort are uneven.
Hotel
Although guests may unload cars at the main hotel reception, cars then need to be parked in the main car-park which is accessed by either a steep drive or 29 steps. Upon arrival at the hotel there are no steps into the reception area. As the Glendorgal was originally built in the 1800's as a gentleman's seaside residence, the hotel retains some of its original layout and therefore all rooms are accessed by stairs. There are 17 stairs to the first floor and as you walk along the corridors there are 7 steps in various positions (maximum of 3 in one position), the second floor is then reached by a further 13 stairs and a further 3 rooms reached by two more steps. There is no lift available in the hotel.
Self-Catering Houses and Apartments
Although there is a driveway to an area in which you can unload your car, you are unable to gain immediate access to any of the houses and apartments which all have to be walked to. From the main driveway for the resort there is another drive leading to the right which takes you to a car park for the guests of the apartments and the area in which you may unload. The car park for all house guests is situated beside this driveway but there is a wall dividing the drive from the car park which must be walked around. To access the houses there are two steps down from the drive and although the majority of the area is flat and slightly sloping, there are up to 18 steps to access the entrance of some of the houses. To enter the houses there is a lip on the front door to step over and once inside there are 9 stairs to the living, dining and kitchen areas and 6 stairs to the bedrooms. Access to the terraced areas is reached through the bedroom and one step over the threshold of the doorway.
The apartments are accessed from the car park at the end of the small drive and down a decked area which slopes down and has 24 steps and various intervals, this then reaches the path in front of the apartments and although some entrances are on this level there are up to 5 steps to reach some of the entrances. There is then a threshold on the main door which must be stepped over into each of the apartments, once inside there is a single bedroom, a bathroom and kitchen area on this level leading to steps taking you down to the living/dining area. The terrace area can then be accessed through the patio doors in the living area. The remaining bedrooms are all upstairs and accessed by stairs.
Glendorgal Restaurant and Bar
The Glendorgal Restaurant and Bar where breakfast, evening meals and drinks are served is situated next to the hotel, although this is part of the hotel building, access to this is by exiting the hotel and walking approximately 5 meters outside and through the main door, where there is one step over the threshold of the door and one further step to the Restaurant and Bar. Access can also be gained from the conservatory doors although these also have a threshold to step over. Once inside the Restaurant and Bar, it is mainly on one level although there is one section which is lower than the rest which is accessed by one step.
Porth Beach
Porth Beach can be accessed via a coastal path which is rocky and uneven and does have several steps along the course of it. There are also several rocks to climb over at the bottom before you can step onto the beach, this is tide dependant and can only be accessed at low tide.
